Washing instructions
Necktie silk
Do not wash your silk tie in the washing machine or in lukewarm soapy water. The best way to clean a silk tie is to treat the stain with benzene. Put a small amount of benzene on a clean cloth and hold it against the stain. The benzene will absorb the stain. Notice! Do not rub! Is the stain still not out of your tie? Put your tie rolled up in a jar with a layer of benzene. Put a lid on it and shake. Let the tie soak in it for about a day. Take your tie out and hang it by the tip of the tail (narrow part) in the open air. This way the benzene will dissipate and the tie will dry up wrinkle-free. Still want to smooth out your tie? Then iron it on the lowest setting and with a tea towel over it to keep the silk from melting. Do not iron over the passantino (loop at the back) to avoid shiny stains on the front. Does the above washing instructions not help? You can also take your tie to the dry cleaners to have it cleaned. Note that steaming is not good for a silk tie, but one cleaning will survive the tie.
